To Grado - Day 1 Primitivo

Like the (shortly to be dead) guy said in the Godfather movie, "you gotta go you gotta go". So at 5:30 a.m., I found myself needing "to go". Once I was up, I heard the trail call. I didn't intend to do 27 km today, but I couldn't stop at 10:00 in the morning at my planned village. I'm committed to a short day tomorrow.

The Grado albergue is much like the Zamora albergue where Ruth and I were hosts exactly one year ago. It is on a much more popular Camino, but it only has 16 beds. It is 100% full every day. The hospitaleras here have promised a very nice breakfast, and I fixed myself too much pasta for dinner this afternoon. I didn't think I could finish it, but I was wrong.

Today's walk had a short section of dirt trail through nice woodland, but still had too much asphalt.

It might take a couple of days to find a new "Camino family", only two familiar faces here.
Follow the hinge of the shell out of Oviedo.
A French couple passed me on a break. The fog held off the sun until about 9:30.
I hope they don't move the dumpster!
The calf stopped and looked at me until Mamma bonked him in the rear with her nose, as if to say "Let's get breakfast done."

Waiting for the albergue to open. I understand both sides of this, but I am a pilgrim now. The earlier the better.

  1. OK, Mike, it's been what--seven, eight days with no pictures of a horse? Are really afraid I won't believe you're in Spain if I see a horse? ;-) Seriously, though, I'm enjoying the blog and the photos (even with no horses). Keep on trekkin'.

    1. Thanks Jim, I'm making up for lack of horse pictures with the cattle pictures!
