Another mystical city. Another good day. James left just before us and since he walks faster than we do, his tracks in the wet road were the only evidence we saw of him.
We are surprised at the number of folks at our refuge for the night. There is a fork in the road in two days. The choices are north to Astorga on the Camino Frances, or west toward Ourense on the Camino Sanabres. If the alburgues are full the next two nights, we will need to go north. If not, we will turn west.
Weather: Low 52 High 59 Threatening skies that waited until we reached Zamora to open up. It's been raining most of the afternoon, but we are inside now.
Quote from RA's journal: "Where did all of these new faces come from?"
Tips for pilgrims: Several folks walked the highway today to avoid the mud. We took the Camino and it was certainly muddy. The choice depends on your preference, we dislike asphalt. The mud would have been worse if it had rained on us during the walk.
I think I am caught up on all the posts.......how are your bodies holding up? Love you!
ReplyDeleteI had blisters on my little toe, but they are better today than any day in the last week. Ruth twisted her ankle 3 days ago but it is much better today, so overall our bodies are OK.
DeleteThank you for these postings. I start in a week from Sevilla.
ReplyDeleteI am wondering about your comment about the albergues being full and that leading to a decision to go North to the Camino France at Astorga. Is your concern that alberges on the Sanabres will continue to be full and there is risk of not finding a place?
Yes, we know there are more folks on the Frances, but also many more beds. Also we feel like the Astorga to Santiago stretch might feel like an old friend. We've done it twice.
DeleteBeen following you on Gronze maps, but Gronze has no maps for the Sanabres...guess you better go north in spite of Horace Greeley's advice :-)
ReplyDeleteI finally got caught up with your blog today and tried to comment, but then forgot my password. What I wanted to say was "Wow! You two are something else." I don't think I could take the cold and rain. I think of you every day and am wishing you Buen Camino.
ReplyDeleteJeanette
Thank you! This is not an easy Camino, but as you know after a good dinner, and a good nights sleep, the body, mind, and soul seem to recover, and off we go again.
DeleteYou guys rock. But you are missing the big snow in Colorado... ;-)
